Ultrasonic Welding

Working Principle :-

It works on the basis principle of Energy of ultrasonic wave.

Ultrasonic Welding is a type of welding process in which high frequency is converted into the mechanical Energy and Heat generated and  the Welding Process completes.

The major Equipments of Ultrasonic Welding are:-

  • Power Supply
  • Transducer
  • Velocity Horn
  • Tungsten Carbide (brazed) tip

Here , A high frequency of power supply (20KHz) is allow to give to the Transducer, which can transform high frequency Electric Signals to high frequency mechanical Vibration.

The Intensity of Vibration is most Increased with the help of Velocity Horn.

The Tip which is Joined to the Velocity Horn made from Tungsten Carbide (brazed) Is responsible to generate dynamic Shear Stress between the interference of Plates.

As a result massive  heat generated and welding complete after solidification.

Application:-

  • To fabricate the Nuclear Reactor Components
  • In Automobile industry - Head lamp parts ,Switch, Keys etc
  • In Electrical Industry for Windings Armature switches.

Advantages:-

  • No External Heat required so No HAZ (Heat Affected Zone) that's why properties of Weld And the Parent metal doesn't Change.
  • Surface finish is Good
  • To weld dissimilar  metal

Disadvantages:-

  • Vibration generates through Transducer is An electric which frequently damages
  • Not suitable for thick metal plates
